I am a fan of her songs but never knew she had a poetry book so you can imagine my surprise when I found out and my eagerness to get into it.
And I must say, I wasn’t disappointed.
📌 The American Woman, a painting done by Halsey herself, is featured on the book’s cover, displaying her creative abilities and the collection’s message: that it is not only about what it is like to live as herself, but also as a woman in modern society.
📌 The poet Halsey delves deep into her own life and reclaims her independence through the poetic pieces in the book.
📌 “I Would Leave Me If I Could” is also remarkable for its genuineness. Halsey’s signature style of artistic lyricism and poetry is present throughout the anthology. The poems are raw, unfiltered, and self-expressive.
📌 One thing I also found fascinating, which many readers of this book also talk about, is the fact that reading the book felt intrusive, like reading someone’s private journal, but that’s part of the book’s power. Because of Halsey’s expansive creative duality, the reader is free to investigate their own emotions, conduct an introspective self-examination and regain their personal power.
All in all, it was a great read/listen on @scribd
